#1
Whats up to everyone on this forum, im back at ya with posting THIS topic that i would like to re-visit. As some of ya may remember, i asked u guys what other genres of music do ya listen to and the reason i did that originally was just out of curiousity to see what your musical preferences was.

For those that dont remember or missed this topic just go to this link right here
http://thebossboard.com/forum/index.php?topic=6039.0

I would like to go back to this for 3 reasons

1) how did u get put on to *insert random artists from other genres, new or old*?
2) im open for recommendations for what artist from other genres (old or new) ya think i should look up and listen to.

my dad has stacks of classic rock ish that i've haven't got a chance to even scratch the surface lol,    you've heard from me already so i shall be quiet, because i too would like to hear  other people pitch in on their musical taste outside of hiphop.

but to kinda answer question number #1,  like the first album i've ever bought, i've listened to music before but as far as when i started listening to music was when i bought marshall matthes LP.  then throughout junior high and highscool, it was all 2pac, linkin park and thats it.  like just obsessed with those two,  i closed my mind to 2pac and linkin park, lol  it was horrible,  i thought i was on top of the world and had eerything figured out.

how i got into other artists is basically just reaching out andopening my mind to other genres,  and damn what a great decision that was,  Music is universal and it has many dynamics and flavours and even if the base of it is to entertain,  you can clearly feel and understand why people listen to music more than just to entertain.

Amen to this comment! Thats exactly why i love music in general and i do have my plenty of my family members to thank for that. I have grown up on all kinds of music and being that i have blues and jazz musicians in my family has exposed me to many genres and artists ranging from Robert Johnson to Muddy Waters, Charlie Parker, Stanley Clarke Etc. then u have my father who was into plenty of rock music & soul music and then i have my cousins who was into hip hop since 1980 something schoolin me on the culture & many of the artists from that era and forward. Yeah, it made a significant difference in not only developing my ear for music but also my understanding of music in general.

Lol thats all fine and dandy, but wayne doesnt count as a legit answer to my post. In all seriousness, what other genre of music do u listen to? what artist of that other said genre do u like? how did u get into that genre/artist and what artist (completely outside of hip hop) do u recommend that i check out? I'll be waiting for new replies from u & others that i have yet to hear from (effex, it would be nice to hear your comments on this).

thats cool how your whole family tree is deep rooted in music.  my dad tried to teach me how to play guitar but i just brushed it off,  big mistake,  damn now i wish i know how to play guitar,  i admire the people who are passionate about their music even if it barely gets them by meetting ends meet at least they are doing what they love 24/7. even the dudes at the streets playing for spair change,  some have jobs somedont but thats realy cool that they can just pick up and play and go as they please.  damn damn damn,  Sad i'm definitely doin something wrong,  this don't feel right no more lol.

Good to see another member who fuck with classic rock like i do. Not gonna lie, I never did get into The Doors Catalogue outside of their very 1st album but i will sometime in the future haha. Led Zeppelin are incredible and Pink Floyd is the very first classic rock act i got into so they do *Warning: You are about to read a comment u may find to be corny as hell* hold a special place in my heart lol
