The Boss Board Forum Upgrade
#1
Exclamation
What's good everyone?

As you have probably noticed by now, The Boss Board forum has undergone a major revision. The goal of this upgrade was to create a seamless integration between our new front page and forum.

Of course with this upgrade, there are several new features and abilities that have been made available for our members. We will go ahead and make a listing of these features in a later post.

For the time being there are a couple of things that you will need to know.

1) Existing user accounts are preserved and should be accessible. In the event that you are having trouble accessing your existing account, please feel free to reset your password. In the event that this does not work, please e-mail webmaster@thebossboard.com and I'll go ahead and straighten it out for you.

2) All user avatars and signatures have been reset. While some users were unaffected by our upgrade, the majority were not and it caused more problems than were expected. We apologize for the inconvenience.

3) There is still extensive work being done on the back-end of this forum. We tried to prepare it as best as possible before re-launching, but as it turns out some issues can only be sorted out while the forum is live. This goes for implementing new and previous features as well. In the event that you experience any downtime, please be patient as the forum is still under construction.

If you run into ANY issues, no matter how insignificant, please report them to us within this thread. This is a large undertaking and I'm sure that something was missed. I want to make the transition as easy as possible for our community.

As always, we appreciate your continued support!

As promised, a list of newly implemented features have been included below. Let's face it, a forum is a forum and we will not list every single feature or outline how to use them. However, if you are an existing member of The Boss Board here is some new options that you may be interested in.

Last Updated: 04/17/17

New Features
  • Rate Threads - Threads can now be rated between 1 to 5 stars based on your opinion.
  • Reputation - You can also rate a user based on their post by providing reputation now. This replaced "Prop" and "Diss".
  • Mention - You can now mention another user in a thread "Twitter" style using the @ symbol and their username.
  • My Alerts - A centralized hub to alert you of new PM's, replied to threads, mention and more.
  • Portal - There is now a main portal where you can see all the latest threads, posts, PM's, etc.
  • Prefixes - You can now prefix your thread with set categories (ex: Music Video, News).
  • Tapatalk - Mobile browsing is back! Tapatalk is now functioning again on The Boss Board.

Coming Soon
  • Auto Embed - Video embedding is already easier than ever, but we'll implement auto embed over the next few days.

As of this morning, Tapatalk has been re-installed on The Boss Board.

Please keep in mind that the "Home" page may display trending topics or threads from the old version of our forum. As a result, this will trigger an error message. This is due to a change in the URL's. At this time, I am seeking a solution.

Other functionality should be working for the most part though. I have spotted a few issues that need to be resolved though. Please let me know if you run into any trouble at all.

Thanks!

Really liking the new layout of both the forums and the main page, the only thing that I would like to see returned is the forum activity on the main page, where it displayed the last few new posts. Was a good way to see if someone had posted about something that hadn't made it to the news section or wasn't news worthy but still interesting.

Of course it's not big deal and if it can't be implemented for whatever reason, just thought I'd throw it out there as everything else has been a nice improvement.

Appreciate the feedback!

Yes, you are absolutely correct. This feature is currently missing from both the main website and the main page of the forum. It is one of the top features I am working on implementing next though. I agree that it was useful as I have already found myself missing it.

A couple tips for checking for new posts in the mean time.

-The Portal feature at the top of the forum gives you useful ways to check for new content.
-The "View New Posts" and "View Today's Posts" are also useful for identifying updates as well.

Now, there are a few plug-ins available that should implement the feature that you requested. However, if they do not look good or function properly, I may have to code it by hand. This will not be a big deal, but may take a little longer. I'll try to get something going this week.

Thanks for bringing this suggestion up! #COB

Just a follow up to the Recent Threads request:

I added a section to the bottom of the forum index called "Recent Threads". It will show all the recently created threads in case you missed out on something. I am hoping to fine tune this a little bit and eventually add a similar section to the main page of the website. I actually had something pretty decent working last week, but need time to clean it up as coding it from scratch is taking a little more time than I originally anticipated. Should not be long though, stay tuned!

Right On

Things are coming together nicely, been nice to get this fresh look all around! Look forward to the final implementation on the main page but this is a nice step in the right direction

I'll try to make it a priority this upcoming week. Hopefully will have something usable by the weekend.
